Study Skills & Organizational Strategies
A student that requires practical knowledge and techniques for planning & completing one's school work or assignment, works within the Direct Instruction program, Skills for School Success, to build fundamental organization and study skills. Suitable for children in grades three through six, students are taught skills required for achievement in the classroom. Lessons cover a wide range of topics including the following: appropriate school behaviours, organizational skills (e.g., setting up assignments using the ‘H.O.W.' strategy, using an agenda effectively), and comprehensive learning strategies (e.g., previewing a chapter to determine significant information utilizing the ‘Warm Up' strategy, developing note taking skills). Student-friendly worksheets are supplied for homework opportunities. Once students learn a particular technique, they are encouraged to apply their knowledge to their own school work.
